CARPET

Shaw Anything Goes Designer’s Dream Carpet is one of the most economical choices for flooring. It offers warmth and comfort in any living space. It, too, can go over most subfloors, and is usually, but not always, put on top of padding. Padding will increase the wear of your carpet, as well as providing additional cushion and insulation. Depending on the type of carpet, padding will vary in weight (density) and thickness. The major differences in carpet will be that of weight and fiber. The higher the weight, the more dense the carpet, thus the better quality. Carpet fibers will differ on type and construction.  In any type of construction, patterns and flecks of different colors help hide traffic patterns and dirt.

Carpet Construction
Loop: Commonly known as berber carpet, this kind of construction offers premium wearability and durability. It hides traffic patterns and dirt well and often comes with flecks of color in it. It is especially good for uses in cabins or high traffic, high dirt areas. Be careful if you have pets, their toe nails can pull out and snag on the loops.
Plush:A cut pile carpet, this type of construction yields a luxurious feel. It often comes in any solid color and in many different densities. It is good for bedrooms and low traffic areas, as it does show traffic patterns and vaccuum marks easily.
Frieze: This carpet construction has become increasingly popular and consists of longer, twisted yarns. It comes with both tweedy, flecked looks, as well solid colors. It hides dirt and traffic patterns well. It is often thought as as being a more informal look.
Mixture: Often referred to as sculpted carpet, and usually a mix of plush and berber or loop construction.

Carpet Fibers
Nylon: This is the most popular synthetic carpet fiber used today. It offers tremendous value, performance, and ease of maintenance. Nylon provides brilliant colors and hides soil and traffic well.
Olefin: This fiber is also called polypropylene, and is extremely popular in Berbers and level loops. Olefin carpets are highly stain, static, mold, and mildew resistant. They can be used for indoor or outdoor carpets, including outdoor turf. Their resistance to matting and crushing are not as good as a nylon fiber.
Polyester: Gives excellent color clarity with a soft feel to the carpet. Lacks the durability of a nylon carpet.
Wool: Although somewhat expensive wool still offers great bulk, color fastness, performance, and an elegant look. It will often last longer than you would like it to.

Bamboo FlooringTeragren Synergy Java

Bamboo flooring, harvested from bamboo grass, is a sustainable alternative to hardwood, and can be treated like such. Bamboo is harvested at 5-6 years at optimum maturity, whereas natural hardwood is harvested at about 30 years, thus making bamboo a sustainable flooring option.  Bamboo, like hardwood, varies in hardness, but is usually at least 25% and up to 150% harder than standard oak. The hardness factor varies on manufacturing techniques and when the grass is harvested. Natural bamboo floors are found in two grain styles, vertical or horizontal, and can be found in just about any neutral shade and color.
