How Pellet Stoves Work

Pellet stoves are free standing stoves that directly vent to the outside, making it easy and affordable to retro fit to any home. Varying hopper sizes allow you to store at least one forty pound bag of pellets in your stove so that the auger can self feed the pellets to burn as necessary.  All stoves are self igniting and require a fraction of the cleaning that regular wood stoves do.

Pellet stove inserts can be placed inside an existing fireplace to utilize the flu and chimney and existing surround. Pellet furnaces and boilers are additional models that are available for other sustainable heating methods.

How a Pellet Stove Works           Wood Pellets

Why Heat Your Home with Wood Pellets

Wood pellets have become a popular form of heat because they are environmentally friendly, extremely clean burning, and cost- effective. Wood pellets are made of wood by-products (such as sawdust, wood chips, and other wood waste products) of varying qualities. These byproducts are run through a pelletizing machine which produces pellets measuring approximately 1/4” diameter by 3/4” long. Pellets can vary in cost, depending on the quality and ash content. Pellets are packaged in 40-lb. bags for easy handling.

Visit the Pellet Fuels Institue to find out more on burning wood pellets.

We give special pellet prices to customers who buy their stoves from us, or for getting whole pallets at a time. Call or stop in today to find out what the current rates are!

Pellet Vocabulary

Ash Content: The nonvolatile inorganic matter of a compound which remains after subjecting it to a high  temperature. In wood pellets, the lower the ash content, the better.

Burn Rate/Time: The amount of fuel, expressed in weight per hour, burnt or used in a heating unit.

Heating Capacity: A measure of the ability of a unit to add heat to an enclosed space.

Hopper: The part of a pellet stove that stores the pellets to be fed into the auger.
